Idris or Enoch is one of the Prophets of God (peace be upon them) who was sent in the earliest eras of history. He was mentioned in the Quran where he was dignified and given a high status. Almighty God says,

And mention in the Book (the Quran) Idris (Enoch).Verily! He was a man of truth, (and) a Prophet. And We raised him to a high station. (Maryam 19:56-57)

Scholars differed whether he came before or after Prophet Noah (peace be upon him). Sheikh Ibn `Uthaimeen said:

The first of the Messengers (peace be upon them) was Noah (peace be upon him), and the last of them was Muhammad (peace be upon him). Before Noah, no Messenger was sent. So, we understand from this that the historians are mistaken in their view that Idris (peace be upon him) came before Noah, because Allah says:

Verily, We have sent the Revelation to you (O Muhammad) as We sent the Revelation to Nuh (Noah) and the Prophets after him. (An-Nisa’ 4:163)

Just as all the Prophet of God, Idris invited his people to the worship of God Alone. Almighty Allah honored them and rewarded them with generous rewards in His Paradise. He says,

And (remember) Isma’il (Ishmael), and Idris (Enoch) and Dhul-Kifl (Isaiah), all were from among As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.). And We admitted them into Our mercy. Indeed, they were of the righteous. (Al-Anbiyaa’ 21:85-86)
